One for the "bucket list"

Very impressed on several fronts. The location of the facility close to the grid starting line. The overall quality of the facility, its amenities, and comfortable seating for viewing the race. The food standard. The visit behind the scenes in the pit lane. Staff knowledge and customer service. On the more negative side, we did n't use the downtown hotels associated with the package so used the COTA parking - nightmare experience leaving on Sunday. Took nearly 2 hours. Communication of our timing for the pit lane tour was poor.

Amazing Trip

First F1 for me and my 11yo son. What an experience. BookF1 was smooth as glass. I would add wristbands to the packet. COTA checks you in/out of every gate. The shuttles are outside of the gates. This becomes quite tedious. Pulling paper tickets that degrade over the course of the day starts to be annoying. Wristbands would solve this.

Great race

The race and tickets were fabulous! It’s too bad they don’t have a better plan for exiting the parking Three hours later made a great weekend a little less so

COTA, The Good and the Bad.

The Good: First time attending the US Grand Prix. We had great views with General Admission Tickets (and $10 Walmart folding chairs) from Turn 11 for Saturday and Turn 1 for the Race. Their is really no need to buy bleacher or grandstand seats at this track as there are plenty of elevated GA areas with good views. The Bruno Mars and Britney Spears concerts were also really good and some other local bands that played throughout the day. Food Choices were good but some long lines as expected. They had plenty of beer vendors going around selling beer so that was good. The Bad: Parking was difficult because of the rain that week. None of the parking is paved so the parking lots were like WW1 battlefields. On Saturday we had to park at a Park and Ride despite paying for on track parking lot T. The park and ride shuttle was good though with plenty of school buses. Security at the event was the worst. We read that you can only take in one bottle of water but they did not check bags thoroughly so you could take in anything in a bag buried under a rain poncho. Also the metal detector went off for just about everybody who went through it but nobody was ever patted down. I set it off both days but was never checked. Then they had security guards saying the mobile rest rooms were closed on Sunday Night while the Britney Spears concert was still going on. Although you could get past security to use the rest rooms while they were distracted stopping others. Security also tried to stop us leaving at an exit for the shuttle saying it was only an employee entrance. Security staff were clearly minimum wager temps hired from an agency for the event. The internal shuttle also had challenges. The buses were full and would not stop unless they had staff at the stop to count people getting on. But they did not have staff at every stop. There is only a total of 6 stops so should not have been difficult to organize. The shuttle also got stuck in traffic on Saturday on the way to the concert and had to let everyone off to walk. To sum up, the mud, security stupidity and internal shuttle bus hick ups did not prevent us from having a really great time at COTA!

Austin F1GP 2018

Weather note the greatest on Friday which made muddy car park and viewing areas but the car parking was well organized considering the problems. Overall a great weekend. One minor comment is that the security staff are extremely inconsistent ie they class sweets (candy) as food then and take from you then there is nowhere trackside to buy more ....this really is mental!!! Also only 2 support formula and one of those had 6 cars.....really not acceptable for a F1 race weekend and no it does not compensate by watching the fortunate few play around on the track in Mercedes and McLaren road cars....

Awesome F1 Experience

This was my first F1 experience and I had a blast. The race was exciting and being there made it that much more special.

COTA F1 Disappointment

The whole COTA experience was horrible.  The facilities were shambolic and the event organization was ludicrously inadequate.   **Getting in and out of the facility was abysmal due to the pitiful traffic control and general inadequacy of the surrounding roads.  Not to mention, the parking lot was a sloppy mess since there was no paving and not nearly enough gravel even, which seems preposterous for an area that gets rain; I feel like this wasn't just due to the recent heavy rains but would always prove horrible unless we were completely experiencing dry weather conditions.  I sat in the parking lot for almost a full hour trying to get out on Sunday after waiting around 45 minutes following the end of the F1 race.  The government really should have made COTA pay for changes to the roads to allow for better entrance and exit from the track.  It felt like they were surprised by how many people would show up and so hadn't prepared at all.  It was inadequate in every possible way and COTA should be ashamed. **The food prices were ridiculous for the poor quality of food as well.  The selection was repetitive and not even all that representative of the food in Austin and/or Texas.  It was like going to a nasty county fair really.  And $4 for a bottle of water is robbery.  Thankfully I didn't drink alcohol or soda because those prices were even more outlandish. **None of the people that work for COTA that were supposed to direct people to their seats seemed to have any additional insight into the layout of the place or how to get around than I did and this was the first time I had been there.  I heard them repeatedly tell people to use the shuttle to get to places that were not a far walk and would have actually been a quicker walk than using the shuttle bus.  At one point we asked for directions and were told 4 different places to go.   **The excessively long time period between the actual racing events and the concerts was far, far too long to make me want to hang around a track that was not that entertaining.  There was far too little to do to keep me hanging around waiting 3 hours to see a concert. **I allegedly bought "premium" tickets that were to include entry to the COTA Club.  However, there was nothing mailed with the tickets that made them any different to regular grandstand tickets.  I was informed on Sunday that I didn't have the right tickets to get into the COTA Club.  After complaining the people working at the entrance to the club finally told me that I would have to go to the box office to pick up entrance passes.  But then I was told that if I left I wouldn't be allowed back in to the race.  To me, this was almost like a bait and switch situation, or just plain lying to get money out of people but not offer them what they had purchased.  At the very least I would have expected that my tickets should have proven adequate to get me into all of the areas of the race that I was entitled to visit.  Why was there nothing in my ticket package to alert me as to how to obtain these phantom COTA Club passes and the fact that I would need them even?  Why were my tickets not enough by themselves?  Why does COTA want to cheat people out of things that they have paid for?  It's a pretty horrendous way to treat customers. This was not the first F1 or MotoGP racing event that I had been to, though it was the first at COTA.  COTA is by far the worst organized and the most unpleasant race event experience that I have had, by a rather large margin.  COTA people should have visited other F1 races to see how well organized events are run before they started hosting events.  I've also read several negative comments from the racers about the maintenance and poor quality of the actual track surface.  I think this is just another mark against COTA and makes me wonder how much longer they will even be able to hold races of any type since they are clearly not adequately maintaining the track or any of the other facilities. Generally, there was nothing that I liked about the experience at COTA.  It actually made me ashamed to be from Austin and is a poor representation to international race goers. We had seats in the grandstands by Turn 1 for practice on Friday, the main grandstand for qualifying on Saturday, and the Turn 15 grandstands for the race on Sunday. The seats weren't bad, though they are too close together and we had broken seats twice. If I couldn't get main grandstand seating for the race, Turn 15 was a good alternative with lots of action and visibility. The race itself was exciting and great but COTA is a farce.

Excellent weekend with Family and Friends

Race weekend was outstanding especially for the Ferrari win. COTA sshould improve: Food: menu is very limited and poor quality. Weather preparedness: all walkways were very muddy. Bruno Mars concert very poorly organized: access was a mess, sound quality awful.

Parking

We booked parking in car park T, this was close to our stand as one of our party had reduced mobility. We arrived on Sunday to find the gates closed and the car park full. We were told to park 2 miles away they would then bus us in to gate 6 and we would then have to get shuttle buses to where we wanted to be. In doing this, this added.an extra hour on to us getting into the circuit and we missed the track parade and just got there for the national anthem. We are very dissatisfied with this as we paid to be close to our stand

Excellent facilities and event at a modern circuit

- Great views from T1 stand - Limited on track action outside of F1, rest of the event compensates, live music, great fan zone and concerts Saturday and Sunday evening - General Admission viewing points probably the best on the calendar - Circuit has great facilities vs European circuits - Good food and drink vendors (BBQ! and craft beer) - Parking easy X - Can’t take food in X - No event radio, so either F1 or COTA app for commentary

Second F1 Race

I really liked the race overall but disappointed in the seats selected. I asked for near the start finish. Our seats were at the back of the starting grid. My lack of trust in COTA and BookF1.com is totally cemented now. I ordered months early just as the tickets went on sale but did not get seat assignment or even a section assignment until the tickets arrived. Ticketmaster and other ticket re-sellers have similar prices and you can see what you are paying for.
